According to a report from the New York Post, Chelsea Clinton is said to be considering a highly respected ambassadorial position in the event that Kamala Harris becomes the president.

“Chelsea really wants to be the ambassador to the UK,” a source close to the Clinton family told the outlet. “There’s a reason why Bill and Hillary came out in the first five minutes to support Kamala’s presidential bid — they were currying favor.”

Although various sources within the Democratic Party and the Biden family have suggested problems with party leadership, it is true that Bill and Hillary Clinton were among the most influential Democrats to quickly express their support for Harris. According to the source, the Clintons have been contemplating this notion for a significant duration.

Ambassadorships to important allies such as the United Kingdom or France are typically given to highly influential political allies and generous contributors. In 2022, President Biden selected Jane Hartley, a prominent Democratic Party fundraiser who actively sought substantial financial contributions for Biden’s election campaign, to serve as the U.K. ambassador.

Hartley is recognized as a proficient “bundler,” as she has effectively gathered and organized more than $100,000 in donations for the party from various groups of contributors.

While running for the presidency, Biden promised to put an end to the tradition of granting esteemed ambassador positions to affluent individuals who make substantial donations. “I will select the most qualified individuals,” he stated. “I will not appoint anyone based on their contributions.”

Contrary to the promise, almost one-third of President Biden’s selections were former “bundles,” as indicated by a story from the New York Post.

According to a source within the Clinton Family, they are aiming to maintain the current pattern. Chelsea Clinton, the current vice chair of the Clinton Foundation, has expressed interest in the position of French ambassador.

“I can well imagine that the UK ambassadorship is an aspiration for Chelsea, although she is a bit junior still — and London usually goes to a massive donor or fundraiser,” a longtime British embassy official told the New York Post.

According to a second family-affiliated source, Chelsea, 44, has long had her sights set on a prominent diplomatic position.

“Foreign countries love high-profile people as ambassadors because it brings them more attention,” the second source said. “They would rather have someone more famous and less rich.”

Chelsea Clinton does have her fair share of connections to the United Kingdom. Like her father, she attended the prestigious Oxford University for both her undergraduate and doctorate degrees.

“She is 44 and has a long-held ambition for this. It’s important for her to have her own legacy,” the person in the know said. “She has always wanted to spend more time abroad, much like Caroline Kennedy” — who is the current ambassador to Australia and was ambassador to Japan under Obama.

The second source did throw cold water on the notion that the Clintons endorsed Harris with the goal of securing the gig for Chelsea, however. “Among stupid things said by clueless people, that’s pretty high up there,” they said.
