Fox News co-hosts Jessica Tarlov and Jeanine Pirro engaged in a heated debate regarding a lengthy speech delivered by Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. Tarlov contended that Trump’s extensive impromptu remarks, totaling 9,000 words, contradicted his stated goal of promoting unity, both on a national scale and within the Republican party.
In the Friday episode of The Five on Fox News, Tarlov, a Democrat strategist and co-host, expressed agreement by stating that she felt Trump’s personal narrative of the moment when the guns were fired on Saturday to be emotionally impactful and significant for the nation to listen to.
However, Tarlov deviated from her conservative co-hosts after then, asserting that the rest of the speech was completely dissimilar.
“The speech was has to be 3000 words and he went 12,000 words. So that’s 9000, 9000 words worth of ad-libbing,” she said. “So if you think that all of those ad libs were unifying were about bringing people together, you are sorely mistaken.”
Tarlov criticized CNN commentators Scott Jennings, a Republican, and Van Jones, a Democrat, for their analyses.
“I don’t understand why pundits like Van Jones, like Scott Jennings, for instance, are not sick of being embarrassed by saying that Donald Trump has changed,” she said. “There were no actual olive branches. When you look at the policies that he was talking about, he was talking to that room, and that room only. He was not talking to Nikki Haley voters. He was not talking to left leaning independents.”
Tarlov listed some of what Trump went into in his record-length remarks, including, “‘Crazy Nancy Pelosi,’ Name-checking Joe Biden. He had said, I am not going to talk about the president. I’m not going to use his name. Talking relentlessly about the migrant invasion and what the migrants are doing to the country.”
“More election denying, ‘they cheated,’ ‘We’ll never let that happen again.’ I’m a victim,” she continued, ticking off items. “Raising people like Viktor Orban, saying that Kim Jong UN misses him?”
At that juncture, the debate swiftly derailed as Tarlov’s co-hosts interjected with multiple arguments regarding immigration and the border, or to assert that Trump is merely an entertainer, resulting in cross talk.
When Pirro said the phrase “migrant invasion” is “about the illegality that is being brought into this country,” Tarlov replied, “I’m not a big dum-dum, I know what it’s about!”
When Pirro claimed that everyone was attentive during the speech, Tarlov countered by stating that she was physically present on the floor of the RNC.
“They fell asleep and people were leaving!” said Tarlov.
