Before the midterms were over, former President Donald Trump had announced his bid for the Presidency in 2024 on the Republican ticket. As 2023 began, this month South Carolinian Nikki Haley announced that her hat is sailing into the ring. Speculation as to others who will soon announce intentions in the Republican primary includes another South Carolinian, Tim Scott, as well as Ron DeSantis, Mike Pence, Ted Cruz, Kristi Noem, Greg Abbott, and a host of others from around the nation.

There is no shortage of eager Republican candidates in the primary, but former President Donald Trump and Nikki Haley are the only other two Republicans in the race at the moment. That changed this week as on Tuesday, another name entered the primary race for the Republican nomination in 2024.

Self-made man Vivek Ramaswamy announced his candidacy during Fox News Tucker Carlson’s show on Tuesday evening. “We are in the middle of this national identity crisis, Tucker, where we have celebrated our difference for so long that we forgot all the ways we are really just the same as Americans bound by a common set of ideals that set this nation into motion 250 years ago,” he said.

“That’s why I am proud to say tonight that I am running for United States president to revive those ideals in this country,” Ramaswamy announced on “Tucker Carlson Tonight.” He stated his intentions. “I think we need to put ‘merit’ back into ‘America’ in every spirit of our lives,” added Ramaswamy, who vowed to end affirmative action in “every sphere of American life.”

Ramaswamy is a conservative entrepreneur who specializes in health care and the tech sector. In an era of “wokeness” and over-the-top racism accusations, his ideas may resound with Americans who are sick of those current issues and the pervasive climate. He is also an author and has been a political activist. he was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, with parents who immigrated from India.

FOX News reported on Ramaswamy’s announcement:

The 37-year-old Ramaswamy, author of “Woke, Inc.: Inside Corporate America’s Social Justice Scam,” has been on what he’s described as a “listening tour” in recent weeks, which took him earlier this month to New Hampshire, which votes second in the Republican presidential nominating calendar.

Ramaswamy, who was dubbed “the C.E.O. of Anti-Woke, Inc.” in a New Yorker magazine profile last year, will return to New Hampshire on Wednesday, with multiple stops in Rochester and Manchester.

“This isn’t just a political campaign; this is a cultural movement to create a new dream for the next generation of Americans,” Ramaswamy said in a campaign video, explaining his philosophy and campaign platform, “about the unapologetic pursuit of excellence in our country. It means you believe in merit; that you get ahead in this country not on the color of your skin but on the content of your character and your contributions.”

“I grew up in Ohio in the 90’s as a skinny kid with nerdy glasses and a funny last name,” he continued. “My parents taught me that if you’re going to stand out, then you might as well be outstanding. Achievement was my ticket to get ahead. I went on to found multi-billion-dollar companies. And I did it while getting married – raising a family and following my faith in God.”

In anticipation of his run for candidacy, Ramaswamy has resigned from the board of the parent company of his businesses. In 2016 He was named one of America’s Richest Entrepreneurs.

Former Senior Adviser and Counsel to President Trump Jenna Ellis applauded Ramaswamy’s announcement on Twitter.

“Brilliantly said. I am a fan of our generation not waiting but taking the torch of liberty and running full speed ahead. It’s a GOOD THING for conservatives to have a deep and wide bench,” she said. “Glad you’re in, Vivek!”

Nikki Haley’s platform highlights national needs. “It’s time for a new generation of leadership to rediscover fiscal responsibility, secure our border and strengthen our country, our pride and purpose,” she stated in her video announcing her candidacy.

Former President Trump’s platform can be summed up in a few words, “I already did that” as the Trump administration previously dealt with the issues plaguing American today. “In order to make America Great and /glorious again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for president of the United States,” he said in November. He made the point in that speech that the Republican Party cannot afford to nominate “a politician or conventional candidate” if it wants to win back the White House. “This will not be my campaign, this will be our campaign all together,” Trump said.

The outcome of the 2020 election, while it was declared that Trump lost, puts Trump in the unique position of being able to run again, and if he wins would be eligible for two terms, possibly becoming a three-term president.
