As the Department of Justice apparently nears a decision on whether to charge his son, Hunter Biden, with a slew of felonies relating to tax and gun concerns, President Joe Biden appears to be preparing the ground for a pardon.
That’s the take of Miranda Divine, a journalist for the New York Post and author of a book about the first son’s problems titled “Laptop From Hell.”
After a rare sit-down interview, where Joe Biden ruled out the prospect that his son would be charged and said it would not affect his political career, Devine made her remarks to Fox News.
“My son has done nothing wrong,” Biden said during the sit-down interview with MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle that aired at 10 p.m. Friday. “I trust him. I have faith in him, and it impacts my presidency by making me feel proud of him,” he continued.
“That mythology of Joe Biden that’s been around for more than four decades, which is that he’s a lovely family man… moderate Democrat, lunch pail Joe, working-class Joe, the poorest man in Congress, and a wonderful family man full of empathy because of the tragedies in his own life. That’s what he’s playing on,” Devine said.
“I think the end game is that he’s setting up… framing this sympathy card so that when it comes time, perhaps in his lame duck period, that he will pardon Hunter and Americans will forgive him because they will say, well, Hunter was a drug addict and Joe just loves his family, and he’s been through enough tragedy in his life,” she continued. “Leave him alone.”
She continued by saying she thinks Joe Biden’s statement to Ruhle was planned and intended to portray the attempt to accuse his son as a “political witch hunt.”
“It’s obviously rehearsed, and the plan for Joe Biden is to just remove himself entirely from the influence-peddling operation that he was involved in with his son Hunter and his brother Jim, pretend that it has nothing to do with him, and that Hunter is just being persecuted in a political witch hunt,” she told Fox News.
“That’s probably the only way he can go, considering he’s lied about his involvement since before the 2020 election,” she added. “And it will work for him with those Americans, and there are still many of them who believe that Joe Biden, that his only scene is that he loves his son too much.”
According to a story last week, the DOJ is about to decide whether to charge Hunter Biden after conducting extensive investigations into potential offenses involving taxes and a gun purchase.
Federal prosecutors and Hunter Biden’s lawyers met last week, according to the New York Post, and a decision was made as to whether or not to move forward.
Prosecutors from the US Attorney’s office in Delaware and legal counsel for the first son met to discuss the ongoing investigation into Hunter’s alleged tax violations and filing a false federal gun purchase form. Over the course of the investigation, two presidential administrations and four years have passed.
According to sources with knowledge of the situation, David Weiss, the US Attorney in Delaware, is reportedly close to determining whether to press charges against Hunter for felony and misdemeanor tax crimes. There has also been talk of the case being dropped.
The announcement of a charging decision comes after “an IRS whistleblower came forward to claim Hunter has received “preferential treatment” under the auspices of Attorney General Merrick Garland,” according to The Post, and FBI investigators reportedly indicated “growing frustration” about the pace of the investigation.
“I think from his point of view, he feels he’s done nothing wrong,” Devine told Fox News. “Remember, in his laptop, he says he gave half to give half its money to his father, that he was basically acting as the bag man for the operation, so he just wants to save himself.”
