According to a court filing submitted on April 20 but unsealed this week, Hunter Biden’s legal team argued that the financial information in his laptop are out-of-date since it was “abandoned sometime in 2019” in the child support case he is disputing in Arkansas.
The Washington Free Beacon reported that the motion filed by Hunter Biden’s legal team claimed it was “not an acknowledgment of ownership or abandonment” of the computer despite appearing to acknowledge that the documents and financial data on the laptop belonged to Hunter Biden. In 2019, the laptop was ostensibly abandoned after being dropped off to a computer repair shop.
“Evidence of Defendant’s income from three years ago and beyond would not tend to prove his income today,” said Hunter Biden’s lawyers. “Thus, the Court should exclude any expert testimony related to the laptop as not relevant.”
No explanation was provided for the withdrawal of the motion on April 20. But it did so following a public hearing in which one of Biden’s attorneys was asked to clarify whether or not the laptop in question was actually Hunter’s. Hunter would need to appear in court to explain and respond to these queries, the judge informed the lawyer, who had claimed not to know.
After a 2019 DNA test revealed that the now 4-year-old child of 32-year-old Lunden Roberts, a stripper who worked at a club in Washington and had a brief affair with the now 53-year-old son of President Biden, is Hunter’s child, Biden has been paying $20,000 a month in child support, according to the New York Post. Shortly after his father, Joe Biden, declared his candidacy for president in 2020, the sum was settled privately.
Biden requests a decrease in the magnitude of those payments, alleging he is experiencing financial difficulties and is unable to make them. His father, who declared last month that he is formally vying for a second term as president, has interests that conflict with his own.
Hunter might be forced to testify under oath about the laptop’s contents as a result of the child-support dispute. He is already under investigation for a number of matters, including allegedly unpaid taxes, the veracity of his answers on a gun purchase application, and his business operations in a probe by House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.).
Other members of the Biden family, including President Biden himself, may be implicated in these financial operations, some of which are documented in the laptop and some of which have been revealed through banking data that Comer’s committee had subpoenaed.
