Media Matters Tried To Destroy Tucker With Leaked Tapes, And It Blew Up Spectacularly

The surprise exit of Tucker Carlson from the Fox News lineup is a saga that still has many unanswered questions and is continuing to play out. It is still not known if Tucker is actually fired from his position at Fox, or just off the air and still under contract.

The LA Times stated that “Fox News announced the stunning departure of its top-rated host Monday with no explanation, but people familiar with the situation who were not authorized to comment publicly said the decision to fire Carlson came straight from Fox Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch with input from board members and other Fox Corp. executives.

Reasons for Carlson’s departure have been bantered about, some saying that it has to do with the discrimination lawsuit filed by Abby Grossberg in which the Dominion Voting Systems defamation case is entwined. There is also buzz that Murdoch was concerned about Carlson’s coverage of the Jan 6, 2021, events at the U.S. Capitol.

Carlson was the recipient of exclusive access to thousands of hours of surveillance footage released by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, some of which he aired and commented on, a coup for an on-air journalist.

But it is Carlson’s off-air conversations that have stirred up more notice lately.

The tapes that were leaked this week of former Fox News host Carlson participating in a phone conversation off the air were intended to be shocking and paint Tucker as two-faced. Left-wing Media Matters attempted to discredit Daily Caller co-founder Tucker Carlson with leaked tapes of him at the Fox News studio, but it did not go as planned.

As reactions to the conversation hit the fan, the hopes of those who set out to discredit Tucker were dashed a bit, and once again, America is laughing with Tucker, not at him.

“Lil Matthew must not be very pleased with the overall tenor of the 1200 and counting comments underneath this thread that’s intended to damage Tucker,” Daily Caller editor-in-chief Geoffrey Ingersoll said.

The footage, posted by senior fellow Matthew Gertz, showed Carlson jokingly calling a woman “yummy,” joking about sex with Piers Morgan, and joking about his “postmenopausal fans” judging his on-screen appearance. As it turns out, the outlet failed to do Carlson much damage, Daily Caller reports.

Reactions to recordings of Carlson’s off-air, personal conversations have produced a storm of reaction, though not what was intended.

“Thank you for confirming that Tucker is a normal, down-to-earth, very funny person. Great work, as always, Media Matters, curating excellent conservative content,” City Journal writer Christopher Rufo commented

“Media Matters really thought they had something with these leaks of Tucker Carlson telling jokes while off the air. They really, really, thought they had something with it. Anyone with a sense of humor can assess that the things Tucker said, like MMFA itself, are in fact, jokes,” Ian Miles Cheong said.

Media Matters also published footage of Carlson criticizing the structure of Fox Nation, Fox News’ streaming service, and the people running the site for not fixing it. He made the remark during a phone call arguing about his attire during an interview he was preparing to conduct. He was being asked to dress casually and responded that he would appear in his usual professional clothes.

“This was the best you could do?” MRCTV managing editor Brittany Hughes said.

“Are your poor feelings hurt that the mean WASP gave you a bird?” Blaze Media media critic Rob Eno said.

“He seemed funny and relatable,” a user said.

Tucker is based. Love him even more now!

this is awesome stuff, i hope we get more of this when he goes indie.

It seems that the gloves are off in the attempts to discredit Tucker now that Fox has deleted him. The New York Times also obtained out-of-context private text messages allegedly written by Carlson in which he reportedly labeled a female Fox News executive the c-word.

“I’m sorry this is happening to you,” The Failing New York Times, an account mocking The New York Times, wrote.

Reports the past week of offers made to Carlson include One America News Network, Blaze TV, and The Heritage Foundation, as well as from Mike Lindell. Other organizations such as Newsmax and Rumble have commented supporting Carlson, but have not publicly made an offer.

Fox’s Megyn Kelly has speculated that Carlson is still under contract with Fox and therefore not able to accept offers, which adds fuel to the fire that the reason for ousting Carlson from the air is to silence him.

Tucker released a self-made video statement earlier this week implying he is not out of the game.

“Where can you still find Americans saying true things? There aren’t many places left, but there are some,” Carlson noted at the end of a video he released as he broke his silence this week. “See you soon.”
