On Monday, Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democratic Congresswoman and 2020 presidential candidate, formally embraced former President Donald Trump in his campaign to regain the White House. Gabbard, who has often voiced disapproval of her party’s leadership and policies, declared her endorsement during a Trump event, citing apprehensions over issues of national security and excessive government authority.
“She’s got great common sense, great spirit, and she loves our country,” Trump said before brining her on stage at the National Guard event in Michigan. Known for her unorthodox stances within the Democratic Party, Gabbard expressed that her decision was driven by a need to avert potential conflicts. “We have never been closer to the brink of nuclear war than now,” she stated. “This is one of the main reasons why I’m committed to doing all that I can to send President Trump back to the White House, where he can once again serve us as our Commander-in-Chief.”
“I am confident that his first task will be to do the work to walk us back from the brink of war,” Gabbard added. “We cannot be prosperous unless we are at peace. And we can’t live free as long as we have a government that is retaliating against its people.”
Following a tenure from 2013 to 2021, Gabbard departed from the Democrat Party in 2022, expressing disapproval of its character as a “elitist cabal of warmongers.” The coalition is established as Trump prepares for a crucial debate confrontation with Vice President Kamala Harris on September 10th at the National Constitutional Center in Philadelphia.

Earlier this month, Trump collaborated with Gabbard to assist in his preparations for the debate versus Harris. Gabbard, who engaged in controversy with Harris during the 2019 Democratic presidential primary debates, gained notoriety for her scathing position on the Democrat Party, which she subsequently disassociated herself from during her 2020 presidential campaign.
The New York Times reports that Trump’s choice to include Gabbard in his ticket was motivated by her notable performance in the CNN debate, during which she strongly challenged Harris’s track record as a prosecutor in California. Amidst the 2019 Democrat debate conflict, Gabbard levied allegations against Harris for her role in the systemic shortcomings of the criminal justice system. These charges are expected to be reiterated by Gabbard as she assists Trump in his preparations. Gabbard’s criticism imparted a profound impact that Trump aspires to direct as he confronts the vice president.
“Senator Harris says she’s proud of her record as a prosecutor and that she’ll be a prosecutor president, but I’m deeply concerned about this record,” Gabbard said during the debate. “There are too many examples to cite, but she put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations and then laughed about it when she was asked if she ever smoked marijuana.”

The affiliation of Gabbard with Trump, albeit unexpected to some, corresponds to her recent efforts to establish a distinct position within conservative circles, frequently making appearances as a guest on several conservative media outlets. Her endorsement follows that of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who halted his campaign and wholeheartedly backed Trump. Trump’s campaign has unabashedly used these factors in the past, portraying Harris and the present administration as disconnected from the fundamental challenges confronting Americans.
