CBS News reporter Catherine Herridge delivered a somber forecast on Sunday’s broadcast of Face The Nation, asserting that the country will see a “black swan event” that will significantly affect national security.

When questioned about her projections for the impending election year, Herridge informed her fellow panelists that her forecast was “somewhat pessimistic.”

“I just feel a lot of concern that 2024 may be the year of a black swan event. This is a national security event with high impact that’s very hard to predict,” she said.

The experienced journalist proceeded to enumerate other influential causes, such as the conflicts in Israel and Ukraine, along with the political divisiveness in the United States.

“There are a number of concerns I have that factor into that. Not only this sort of enduring heightened threat level that we’re facing, the wars in Israel, also Ukraine. And we’re so divided in this country in ways that we haven’t seen before,” Herridge explained. “And I think that just creates fertile ground for our adversaries like North Korea, China, and Iran. And that’s what concerns me most.”

Herridge’s somber forecast comes shortly after FBI Director Christopher Wray testified that the levels of terrorist threats have escalated to perilous levels.

“Given the steady drumbeat of calls for attacks by foreign terrorist organizations since Oct. 7, we’re working around the clock to identify and disrupt potential attacks by those inspired by Hamas’s horrific terrorist attacks in Israel,” Wray said in an appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee earlier this month.

“The threat level has gone to a whole ‘nother level since October 7,” he added.
