On Wednesday, former President Donald Trump left his protective podium to attend to a supporter who had collapsed during his campaign rally in North Carolina.
This happened during his first outdoor rally following the attempted assassination in Pennsylvania last month, underscoring the stringent security protocols that have come to be associated with his appearances. At the North Carolina Aviation Museum & Hall of Fame, Trump spoke about national security during the incident.
He was speaking when he noticed some noise in the audience. Without pausing, Trump left the stage—walking past the bulletproof glass—to see how the afflicted guest was doing.
The demonstration was carefully guarded, with storage containers positioned to block possible threats and snipers on roofs. But at that precise moment, Trump’s only concern was for his supporter’s welfare.
The event is a component of Trump’s week-long plan to take control of the media and divert attention away from the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Based on swing state polling generally, Trump leads Harris by a narrow margin at this point.
