A significant US-Mexico border crossing has seen heavy shooting break out, and local accounts indicate numerous fatalities.

Around 3 p.m. local time, the incident started on the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge.

According to the Mexican news outlet Adn40, “apparently the confrontation occurred between elements of the army and armed civilians; the preliminary balance is three alleged criminals killed.”

The city of Pharr in Texas, United States, and the city of Reynosa in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas are connected by a bridge that spans the Rio Grande.

Another video shows two individuals hiding by the side of a truck as shots ring out over the seemingly empty road.

Bullets bouncing off the Reynosa-Pharr customs building, a witness wrote beside a photo of a shredded bullet.

The renowned gangs that oversee the flow of illicit drugs into the US are fierce rivals for control of Mexico’s border regions.

Video shot from inside one of the bridge trucks reveals what looks to be Mexican army vehicles whizzing past motorists cowering in their cars.

Local reports suggest the clashes broke out after authorities allegedly arrested ‘La Pawa’, the regional leader of the criminal group Los Zetas.

In response to concerns that a wave of immigrants will attempt to pass when Covid-19 border restrictions are lifted later this month, Joe Biden has stated he will send 1,500 troops to the US-Mexico border.

The Marines’ 90-day deployment will support the US border patrol, but they won’t be doing any law enforcement work.

The ‘Tummy Tuck’ Four were abducted in the state of Tamaulipas and the city of Matamoros; two of them died as a result.

While Shaeed Woodard and Zindell Brown were killed, US citizens Latavia “Tay” McGee and Eric James Williams made it out alive and were reunited with their families.
